Year in Pictures: 2021
As the design lead responsible for both print and digital product of this issue (January 2022 issue of National Geographic magazine), I oversaw various aspects of its creation. This included conceptualizing and crafting the issue, collaborating extensively in the photo editing process with the director of photography, and exploring numerous design options. Additionally, I carefully organized the various contents and elements within each chapter to ensure a cohesive and visually engaging presentation.
For digital presentation of this issue, I worked closely with a developer to introduce a new method for displaying horizontal images in the digital format. The primary challenge we addressed was how to present the stunning work of National Geographic photographers more immersively without heavily cropping the images on mobile devices. We implemented a solution where both cropped and uncropped versions of the images were showcased, allowing for a dynamic zooming experience as readers scrolled through the page on their phones. This interacrtive behavior was later adopted in the digital build for the Pictures of the Year 2022 project and Stonehenge story. Explore the digital build here.
